BYD's Yangwang U9 Xtreme hit 503.17 km/h, or 312.66 mph, in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 1, the first time a production car has passed 500 km/h, Electric Cars Report said.
The all-electric hypercar broke its own record of 496.22 km/h, set in Germany in September 2025. The FIA recognized the run, and Guinness World Records awarded four titles, two for the car and two for its tires.
Driver Marc Basseng used a closed 10 km section of the E11 road, with a 7 km straight. Two runs on Oct. 31 reached about 490 km/h.
Engineers then reworked suspension software, rear-wing angle, tire pressures and battery and motor temperatures overnight. The second of two runs on Nov. 1 set the record.
BYD plans 30 cars worldwide, each customized to the owner's wishes. Some buyers have signed off on specifications and are moving to contracts, Electric Cars Report said.
