Privacy policy

This website is a personal, non-commercial project operated from Switzerland. This policy explains what data is processed when you use it.

1. Who is responsible

2. What we collect

You can use the whole site without an account and without telling us anything about yourself. We only store data when you plan your own route or commute (section 3) or create an account (section 4). There is no tracking, no advertising and no analytics.

3. Your own routes and commutes

When you plan a route or a commute, we store its start, destination and the calculated route, and set one cookie that links the routes to your browser. The cookie holds a random identifier only, no personal information. It is technically necessary for the feature you asked for, so it is set only when you plan or save a route, never just by visiting.

• Routes and commutes are deleted 7 days after they were planned. When you are signed in, they stay in your account until you remove them or delete the account.
• Every route has a hard-to-guess link; anyone you share it with can see it. Shared links are never listed or indexed by search engines.
• To find places and plan the route, our server sends the place names you type and the coordinates to Mapbox. Your browser does not contact Mapbox, so Mapbox does not see your IP address; maps are delivered through our server too.
• Cookie details: one session cookie (HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, sent over HTTPS only) that expires after 14 days.

4. Your account

An account is optional. It keeps the cars you save and your routes and commutes, on every device you sign in on. There are no passwords.

• We store your email address, when the account was created and last used, the cars you saved and which routes are yours.
• Signing in with your email address: we email you a one-time code. The email is sent through our mail provider, which processes your address only to deliver it.
• Signing in with Google: Google tells us your email address and an ID for your Google account, nothing else (no name, no picture, no contacts). Google's privacy policy applies to signing in there.
• Cookies: the session cookie of section 3 keeps you signed in for 14 days. A second cookie (csrftoken, a random value) protects signing in and your account against forged requests from other websites. Both are set only once you agree, when you sign in.
• You can delete your account yourself on the account page at any time. It is deleted at once, with your saved cars and your routes (routes someone else saved from your link stay with them).

5. Your browser's storage

The vehicles you pick to compare are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device; clearing your browser data removes them. Your cookie choice (sections 3 and 4) is kept there too.

6. Video reviews

Reviews link to YouTube instead of embedding it. The preview images are loaded through our server, so YouTube learns nothing about you while you browse. When you open a video, YouTube's privacy policy applies.

7. Hosting

The website runs on a rented server. Like any web server, it keeps technical logs (such as IP address and time of a request) for a short time for operation and security.

8. Your rights

You may ask what data about you is stored and have it corrected or deleted. Write to the address above. Your own routes and your account you can also remove yourself at any time.

9. Changes

This policy changes when the website does. The date at the top shows the latest version.
