BMW said it plans to roll out navigation-guided, partially automated SAE Level 2 driving in urban traffic from 2027, beginning in Germany and later in other countries. Using route guidance from BMW Maps, the system is designed to help with turning, lane changes in town, right-of-way situations and roundabouts, while the driver must stay attentive. The hardware is standard in the new iX3 and iX4 and in every variant of the X5, the 3 Series and the 7 Series, and the software will arrive over the air, the company said. An independent technical service has completed the real-world tests for approval under UNECE R171 (DCAS Series 2), with official confirmation expected in early 2027, according to BMW.
