Battery-electric vehicles took 23.1% of Australia's new vehicle market in October and outsold petrol-only cars for a third consecutive month, combined FCAI and Electric Vehicle Council figures show.
Petrol sales fell 35.9% from a year earlier to 23,605, and diesel dropped 14.7%. The EV share slipped from 24.2% in September but stood at 7.3% in October 2025.
Best-selling EVs in October:
- Tesla Model Y: 3,105
- BYD Sealion 7: 2,524
- Geely EX5: 1,789
- Jaecoo J5: 1,714
- Zeekr 7X: 1,441
Sales for the first 10 months reached 205,436, around 19.3% of the market, The Driven reported.
FCAI chief executive Tony Weber credited competition, costlier fuel, Middle East instability and federal tax concessions for strong EV demand. He said charging infrastructure must keep up.
