Škoda is bringing battery pre-heating to Enyaq cars built from the model's launch to roughly the end of 2023, a feature meant to speed up charging in the cold, the company said.
Owners need software version 3.9, which takes two updates from version 3.8: one prepares the car, the other adds the function. Older 3.x cars must reach 3.8 online first, while version 2.x needs a service center visit.
The first cars should get the second step from week 49, with more waves to follow, said Jiří Vlček, who leads the online updates project.
A new infotainment screen in the charging section has a manual start button, active when the battery is below 20°C. The pack reaches its ideal temperature of about 25°C after 30 to 40 minutes, depending on conditions.
Cars on version 4 or later can pre-heat on their own once a charger is set as the navigation destination. The update does not add that.
InsideEVs reported that Volkswagen is doing the same for its oldest ID.4 and ID.5 models through an over-the-air update.
